Dill Growing Season In India
Dill grows in a warm climate but can tolerate even light frost; for successful sowing results, sow the dill seeds from spring to early summer (February to April). You can also plant the dill during cooler months from October-January (Fall and Winter).

How to Grow Dill
Dill seeds should be sown directly in pots because it has long roots so they will not grow well if you transplant them. Select pots or grow bags that are at least 30-60 wide and 30-40 cm deep that have good drainage holes. The ideal soil temperature for the germination of dill seeds is between 18°C-23°C and the best seed germination temperature is 15-26°C if you want to grow dill indoors.

Dill Seeds Sowing Method
Take a pot or grow bag, fill them with soil and add organic fertilizer (like vermicompost, cow manure, etc) and then sow the dill seeds about 1 cm deep into the soil. Water the soil deeply through a watering can, keep the soil moist, and place the pot indoors or outdoors in a sunny area. Dill seeds germinate in about 10-14 days (depending on growing conditions).

Fertilizer For Dill Plants
Dill plants do not require feed and grow very well in nutrient-rich soil.

Dill Plants Care Tips
Soil : Use well-drained, rich, and loose soil for planting dill.
Water : Dill does not require much water, water whenever you feel the soil has become dry but do not allow the soil to dry out for too long as it will tend to bolt.
Sunlight : Dill plants require at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day and if you are growing dill indoors, make sure the plant receives at least 4 hours of sunlight.
Temperature : The optimum dill growing temperatures are 10-26°C; however, it can tolerate temperatures up to -3°C.
Common pests and diseases : Some pests such as aphids, cutworms, caterpillars, and root-knot nematodes attack dill plants and diseases like downy mildew, powdery mildew and root rot infect the plants. To get rid of the problem it would be right to spray Neem oil on the dill plants.

Harvesting Dill Leaves (Fronds)
• Dill plants are ready to harvest within 40-60 days from planting.
• You can also cut the leaves when the dill plant has 4-5 leaves.
• For continuous harvesting sow the seeds every few weeks.

Harvesting Dill Seeds
• Dill seeds are ready to harvest in about 85-115 days.
• The best time to harvest the seeds is when seeds turn green to brown.
• Cut off the stalk with scissors and then collect the seeds.
• And if you don't want dill to be re-sown in your pot, cut off the dill seed heads before they form.
