How To Grow Yellow Turmeric At Home In A Pot
• Choose a container at least 12 inches in diameter with adequate drainage holes.
• Fill the pot with well-draining soil mixed with compost or organic matter.
• Obtain a fresh, healthy turmeric rhizome with several buds.
• Plant the rhizome 2-3 inches deep in the soil with the buds facing upward.
• Water the soil thoroughly and place the pot in a warm, bright location with indirect sunlight. The ideal temperature for growing turmeric is between 68-86°F.
• Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the plant whenever the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch.
• Fertilize the plant once every 2-3 weeks with a balanced, organic fertilizer.
• Once the plant reaches 6-8 inches tall, cut back on watering to allow the soil to dry out a bit between waterings.
• Harvest the turmeric when the leaves start to yellow, usually after 8-10 months. Carefully dig up the rhizomes and let them dry in the sun for a few days. Store the dried rhizomes in a cool, dark place until ready to use.
