Sowing Method

When to Sow :
• Indoors : 6 weeks before the last expected frost
• Outdoors : After the last frost, when the soil has warmed
Seed Preparation :
• Seeds do not require pre-soaking.
• Fine seeds - handle gently and sow sparingly.
How to Sow :
• Sow on the surface or lightly cover (1/8 inch deep) with fine soil.
• Maintain consistent moisture and warmth (20–25°C or 68–77°F).
Germination time : 7–14 days
Location :
• Start in seed trays or directly in the garden under full sun.

Planting

Transplanting :
• Transplant when seedlings are 3–4 inches tall and the risk of frost has passed.
• Handle with care to avoid disturbing roots.
Spacing :
• Space plants 8–12 inches apart to allow proper air circulation and growth.
Soil Requirements :
• Prefers well-drained, fertile, loamy or sandy soil.
Soil pH : 6.0 to 7.0 (neutral to slightly acidic)
Watering :
• Water regularly but avoid overwatering. Let the top inch of soil dry between waterings.
• Once established, it is fairly drought-resistant.
Sunlight :
• Requires full sun for best blooming (minimum 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day).
Fertilization :
• Use a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2–4 weeks.
• Do not over-fertilize; too much nitrogen can cause leggy growth and fewer flowers.

Harvesting

Blooming Period :
• Starts 6–8 weeks after sowing.
• Blooms last throughout summer to early fall.
For Fresh Use :
• Cut flowers when fully open.
• Best cut in the morning when the plant is hydrated.
For Drying :
• Cut blooms and hang upside down in a dark, dry, well-ventilated area.
• Drying retains their vibrant color and plume shape.
